The Basics

What is truth, bit, pull? It’s the Kaas Tailored way of simplifying what we’ve learned from Kaizen, various lean tools, Lean Improvement, and the Toyota Way.

Truth, Bit, Pull

Common Questions

  • By knowing the Truth, we are able to take appropriate, timely action and limit defects.

    Here are some examples:

    • By knowing that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics (things move from order to chaos) exists, we can design our systems to put things back in order

    • We post our Finance metrics in the middle of our shop so that we can know Cash Status, Profitability, and our Current & Debt to Equity ratios every month, which aids in decision-making

    • Our Connect Grow Go people development system is designed to facilitate open and honest conversations with our team so that they know where they stand and what the need to work on for their potential to come alive

  • When we move from Batch to Bit, we are able to see problems arise and fix them before handing the Batch to the customer.

    Here are some examples:

    • When we used to make furniture in batches, we would not find defects until the next step in the process and all 10 chairs had the same defect

    • When we work on projects or solve big problems, having daily (bit) touch bases allow us to see progress and problems more easily

    • Compare learning a foreign language in High School (batch) to Duolingo or Rosetta Stone (bit)

  • By working with Pull in all that we do (such as communication, decision-making, and producing products), we can make sure that what we add value with the internal and/or external customer in mind.

    Here are some more examples:

    • Starbucks mobile ordering and how they make espresso drinks

    • Our upholstery team pulls materials and WIP from the Frame and Sewing teams, who pulls material from our Materials Management team

    • Our huddles allow for anyone in the huddle to pull for help or information
