Special Event: Listening to Hear Parts

Effective communication starts with effective listening. We all know this. However, it is much easier said than done. Whether you are a team player, new leader, or seasoned veteran, we can all practice our listening skills.

The Listening to Hear Parts exercise was developed by Tilo Schwarz and Tracy Defoe in their Toyota Kata Dojo work to practice the microskill of listening.

Expected outcomes:

To practice listening skills by focusing on all parts of what someone says.

Format:

There will be some plenary teaching followed by hands on practice in break out rooms.

Technical requirements:

  • A desktop computer, iPad, or laptop (one device per person)

  • Zoom (with mic & video)

Prerequisites

Have attended a Waste Tour (in-person or virtually)
